One of my favourite past times is to go to the websites of car makers from other countries and see what sort of interesting vehicles they sell. I love seeing what old models they continue to sell new in other places. Personally seeing every single new model they sell compiled into one list is quite satisfying.
I’ve already done !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and after the nightmare that was !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I want to do something alot more simpler. I know! Hyundai! How many models could they have?
Oh God.
You know for a world which crossovers are killing everything they see, Hyundai has the most saloon heavy lineup I have ever seen. Doesn’t help that they they have multiple different saloons in the same segment, but sold in different countries. Coupled with that they all look the same, and (in my opinion) Hyundai has some of the most generic corporate styling of all, has lead to a massively confusing lineup.

The smallest model Hyundai offers, primarily for lower income countries. Just think of it as a Tata Nano competitor.
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
The Santro was originally the name of the original Hyundai Atoz in India, which was sold all the way up to 2014! Despite being replaced by the i10, the Santro name remained kind of a big deal in India, so they recently brought it back for a new version.
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
The smallest car in their European range however is the i10. In some places Hyundai of uses an i-
multiple of 10 to denote size
naming scheme. (It’s actually multiples of 5, as in some places the Accent and Sonata used to be called the i25 and i45) Why i? i don’t know.
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
The hatchback didn’t get a facelift but they saloon did. How come?
They also offer a larger version of the i10 in emerging markets, although they tend to not sell the two versions alongside each other, preferring to only sell one or the other on it’s own. Beats me why there’s demand for an extra 1.6” of leg room. The sedan version is sometimes known as the Xcent, or even worse, the Grand i Smart! S hudders.
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
From Hyundai’s handy naming scheme we can see that the i20 is their Fiesta sized car! Interestingly at the same time the “Active” variant came out, the 5 door got a facelift, but the brand spanking new plastic version retains the old bumper? There used to be a 3 door version, but has sadly gone the way of the dodo.
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
For those countries that like saloons, the Avante, which outside of Korea has a bunch of other names. American’s will know it as the Accent. But it also comes in a hatchback. Doesn’t the i20 exist for that?
Interestingly enough, China got the current gen Accent way before the rest of the world, there it’s called the Verna (Yuè nà), and gets different styling.
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
In alot of areas, including Korea, they still sell the old Accent.
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
Hyundai Egypt still sells the 1999 Accent though! Frankly this press photo looks like it was created in 1999.
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
This car, which seems about the size of an i20, has a completely different alphanumerical name, yet there are no other models that follows this naming scheme. Does HB stand for hatchback? Makes sense until you realise the saloon version is called the HB20S. Also we’ve come too far without another look at me I’m adventurous version! This ones called the HB20X, and continues the trend of Hyundai crossover trims not having a facelift.
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
This is the actual Chinese budget alternative to the Vernas. It’s unsuprisingly based on the Accent. Has a great website though.
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
It survived for another generation! Seriously, was anyone expecting the Veloster to survive? I’m glad it did, and it kept it’s door party trick. And by the way, the Veloster N is coming to Chile soon, making it the only country they sell both the Veloster N and i30 N.

Mainly for the Europeans, the i30 is their Focus competitor. Americans get it as the Elantra GT, although it’s not fooling anyone, as they’re clearly different models. In fact there is a proper saloon version of the i30, although it has a liftgate.

For the countries that like their trunks, there’s the Elantra. You know, I’m finding myself quite liking the facelift, definitely more distinct than the same super generic grilles that pepper every other Hyundai. In China it’s known as the Elantra (or Lng dòng, wow thanks Kinja font), to differentiate it from this:
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
Head over to Egypt, and you can find an older Elantra! Although, wouldn’t the current gen Elantra make more sense as an Elantra High Definition?
And naturally, China loves their old cars they also sell the old, old Elantra as the Elantra (literally New Yuèdòng. What’s so new about an 11 year old car? Beats me). With different bumpers from everywhere else. (Again?) It’s the same price as the current gen. Also, Electric version! That costs double over the standard one. Oh dear...

Halfway through it’s life, it gained an estate version
So Chinese customer, the all new 2018 Elantra is a bit too expensive for you. And so is the 2007 Elantra... So where does that lead you? To the Hyundai Celesta of course! Remember how the old Elantra was called the
New
Yuèdòng? Well the Celesta’s Chinese name literally means
All New
Yuèdòng, as this basically replaces the old Yuèdòng, but the old Elantra is still around...
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
Are those brown accents? That’s a first.
Ah! Finally! We’ve move on past from the Elantra sized saloons, to something more global! The Toyota Prius Hyundai IONIQ! For some reason, for the Electric version, it varies from country whether that faux grille is grey or black.
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
Interestingly it was unveiled as the LAFESTA, but since entering production it gained a space between them. And I’m afraid the capitals are compulsory.
No I want to go back! No more confusing Chinese saloons, please! Oh well. Hyundai has recently unveiled another Chinese exclusive sedan, as basically the production version of the
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
. It apparently fills the gap between the Elantra and the Sonata. Yes, that very large gap in the market I’m sure everyone was crying out for Hyundai to fill. It’s apparently a sportier alternative to the Elantras and the Celesta, like the CLS is to the E-Class.
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
Apparently the Mistra slots in the gap between the Elantra and the Sonata in terms of size. Wait, a second? Yes, Hyundai was absolutely certain that the Elantra to Sonata gap was so massive, they figured the Chinese wouldn’t be able to cope. So they designed 2 of them to slot in. Nice and snug. In terms of size I guess the Mistra is a Sonata Minus and the LA FESTA is the Elantra Plus?
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
But wait, don’t forget about the Europeans! Why yes, the i40, that Mondeo competitor you forgot existed!
!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!
And for alot of others, the Sonata is the equivalent.
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
This is now the largest saloon that Hyundai sells, the Grandeur. The previous gen used to be sold in America, but was discontinued.
,Phew! That was a ton of useless saloons! And there would still be more if they didn’t spin off the Genesis into a new brand! Next time where we look at Hyundai’s surprisingly small SUV range, and their frighteningly massive Commercial truck and bus lineup. (Not gonna lie it’s kinda boring).

Just.....wow.
So much Sedan overlap, even Mr. Miyagi would ask Hyundai to stop waxing on and off and go home.

Firstly, I appreciate this series. Second, JESUS THE MODEL OVERLAP IS REAL.
Trim your shit down and close a factory or two, seems like they could easily cut out 5 cars.
